The 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition will be held from November 6th, 2010 to April 25th, 2011. This is the first time the event will be held in Taiwan. Taipei is the seventh city in Asia to host such a gardening expo, and this is a chance for Taiwan to show the world its commitment to outstanding gardening and the achievements it has made in the biotechnology sector.
Featuring a theme of “Flower, River, New Horizon,” the Taipei Expo grounds spread across an area of 91.8 hectares with 14 unique exhibition pavilions in four major parks. Each pavilion will showcase the beauty of horticulture, biotechnology and environmental protection technology.
Unlike suburban expositions held in Kunming, Hamanako, Chiang Mai and other cities, the 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition will take place in the city center as a response to people’s desire for more urban green spaces. The site plans and designs of this year’s show incorporate urban renewal concepts.
It is estimated that as many as 8 million tourists will visit Taipei City for the 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition. The Expo will help Taiwan share with the world its achievements in the areas of tourism, catering, gardening and biotechnology.

Copycat or Coincidence?

Nowadays more and more knock-offs are involved in people's daily life. Not surprisingly Photocatalyst Mosquito Killer is no exception. Recently we bought 2 similar products from the internet. We hope you can see the difference.

 Basically, their inside all look the same. I guess they probably come from the same manufacturer so we just look one product teardown.

Outside: Copycat electrical wire

Above are certificated electrical wire.

Inside: Copycat has many messy wires.

This is not gonna pass BSMI certification in Taiwan.

What size electrical wire do they use?

      

No-Name wire is thinner and very easy to pull apart.

Inside: Only use 2 screws to lock fan may cause fan noise easily.

  Let’s see photocatalytic reaction test.

Stamp ink is made by organic material and it would fade after photocatalytic activity.(if material has photocatalyst)

Take a wet towel to rub ink on the white plastic board of GR-01. Use a card to block 1/2 ink and put it under UV irradiance for 5 minutes.

We use large UV light to shorten the process of photocatalytic activity.

      Remove the card and you can see photocatalysic reaction let the blue ink fade.

     Unfortunately, copycat photocatalyst experiment doesn’t have the same result.

   Use another reagent to test photocatalytic activity. If material has photocatalyst, reagent will change color to light green.

We use same reagent to test copycat. It doesn’t have any change. Why am I not surprised ?

New Packaging for 2010

Christmas is coming this week. It’s almost the end of 2009. Since the GR-01 launched in April, we’ve done pretty well in the domestic market in Taiwan and also got a lot of enquiries from overseas. To all the distributors, thanks for your support and valuable suggestion.

Recently, we are busy working on the upcoming model. We add tons of new functions to the new model. Hope it can launch on schedule in the first quarter of 2010.

New English packaging for GR-01 is another project. Original design is pretty plain and I want to pair more Chinese culture with branding and packaging design. Luckily, my friend Joyce is an excellent talented young packaging designer. But at the beginning, we struggled on how to represent Chinese culture with our brand image. One day surfing on the net, I saw a beautiful mouse decorated with “Blue and White porcelain”.

Yes, “Blue and White porcelain”.

Of all the art forms created in China during its ling history, the Blue and White porcelain is considered a masterwork of the craft because of its technical originality and artistic brilliance. Blue and White porcelain is also a big talking point lately in Chinese societies. This all has to give the credit to Jay Chou (Chinese pop star singer). Jay Chou’s album “Blue and White porcelain” was probably the greatest hit of 2008.

During the Hanhai Autumn auction 2009, a Blue and White porcelain jug was auctioned off for 10 million US dollars. The price set a record for a single piece of porcelain ware auctioned within China.

Since then, “Blue and White porcelain” simple but elegant designs, bright colors with rich patterns have become key ideas of our packaging design. We use sea blue and light green as the basic colors to match the product and brand image.

I hope this new packaging and upcoming models can boost our sales. May be one day our products will be well-known as Blue and White porcelain.

Copenhagen and Carbon Emissions of GR-01

Two weeks of wrangling later, sharp divisions between the rich and poor nations over how to fight the fight have been laid bare. Few might have expected the UN Climate Change Conference at Copenhagen, which came to a close last weekend, to throw up a game-changer of a deal.

Yet, even lowered expectations could hardly stem the disappointment many people felt over the final outcome - a last-minute accord that was weaker than not only a legally binding treaty but also the expected "political" agreement. It is clear that developing and developed nations have different historical and emission responsibilities and vary in current emission levels due to different development stages.

In this kind of eco-friendly atmosphere, few days ago, we got a mail question the carbon dioxide emissions of GR-01. She seemed not in favor of the idea of using CO2 emissions. We know conserve energy and reduce carbon emission is a trend and it is also our global citizenship to make our life better. In fact, our GR-01 carbon emission is only 200ppm compared with 40,000ppm to human breath. We don’t know how much carbon emissions of traditional mosquito killer. But for energy consumption, GR-01 uses only 7-9W (220V/110V) compared with 14-18W (220V/110V) of the traditional electric mosquito killer.

So in conclusion, our machine is pretty “green” in terms of carbon emissions and energy consumption. Not to mention Photocatalystic reaction can purify and reduce microbe in the air.

Copenhagen Accord represents a step forward, although not enough. At least, it was a new beginning in the battle against global warming. As global citizens, we hope our little effect can make a difference.

Solar Photocatalyst Mosquito Killer GR-101

GR-101 uses 10W solar panel to collect sunlight and convert it into electricity. It has a build-in solar charge controller to regulate the power and protect the batteries from being overcharge. GR-101 can work 8 hours after fully day’s sunlight and automatically on at night and off during the day.

How Mosquitoes Find You?
Female mosquitoes need blood to nourish their eggs. They get that blood from you, your family and your pets. Mosquitoes find their targets based on warmth, moisture and carbon dioxide (CO2).
When people and animals breathe, they exhale an invisible mixture of carbon dioxide (CO2). Mosquitoes have ultra-sensitive receptors which can detect the presence of these chemicals. They follow your scent (CO2) upwind, and can trace you from almost 100 feet away.

F.A.Q
Q: Do I need to replace photocatalyst?

A: Our product uses the sixth generation ARC-FLASH Photocatalyst and is replacement-free. Compared with normal photocalyst, ARC-FLASH Photocatalyst has superior thin-film coating technique and better performance. After being dry, photocatalyst forms a very solid film that can be washed for 2,000 times unless strong cleaning chemicals are used.

Q: Any consumable items?   How long does the UV lamp last?

A: UV lamp and fan are consumable items. Our UV lamp uses CCFL. The biggest advantage of CCFL is lower voltage and longer life span. Our UV lamp decreases slowly with age and is estimated to last 8,000 hours. Fan is estimated up to 15,000 hours.

Q: Why we suggest put GR-01 outdoor? 

A: Photocatalyst Mosquito Killer mainly uses CO2 to lure mosquitoes, but human breath contains high level of CO2 than GR-01(40,000ppm vs 200ppm). If you put GR-01 in the house with people around,      GR-01 cannot lure mosquitoes efficiently because human breath contains higher CO2 density. But if you place GR-01 outside near the house, even just 200ppm CO2 is strong enough to lure mosquitoes. Mosquitoes all come from outside, GR-01 can lower the density of mosquitoes around the house, so you will feel less mosquitoes inside and get better sleep.
